TalkRadio ask about online worship

In a time of coronavirus, a number of clergy have embraced new technology and thrown themselves into live-streaming worship and prayer.

TalkRadio took an interest in this new area of ministry and invited the Revd Canon Elaine Chegwin Hall to speak about it with radio host, Penny Smith.

Elaine is the Incumbent of Stockport St George and she spoke with Penny Smith on Talk Radio on 12 April 2020. She told Talk Radio that clergy are staying at home just like everybody else and rather than doing nothing, they are embracing new technology and thinking "differently" about the ways in which they can share the good news of Jesus.

She said: "As everything started to close down, somebody shouted over the road to me, 'now you'll have nothing to do!' and that has been so far from the truth... because we have to think differently, we have to reimagine services differently to make sure they can be heard and seen properly and more importantly, understood."

They discussed the technicalities of live-streaming worship and Elaine also said that the crisis had made clear that people are looking for prayer and support: "People are wanting comfort and support and one of the comments I've heard a number of times is 'thank you for the normality'... lots of people are finding that comfort and that peace and that sense of normality in what we're trying to do."

She also said that the number of people tuning in has been "remarkable".
