The Diocese of Chester is pleased to announce the appointment of Jon Pocock as Strategic Programme Director, a role created to help deliver the recently agreed Vision for the diocese.
Jon will begin his work in October when he will coordinate the delivery of the diocese’s strategic plan, taking direct responsibility for overseeing projects on behalf of the Bishop’s Core team and ensuring that all support functions (Ministry & Outreach, HR, Finance etc) are aligned with the delivery of the diocese’s vision.
Jon currently lives in Somerset where he works as the Operations Director for Yeovil Community Church, where he runs a range of social action projects, working in partnership with the local authority and other churches/charities to bring hope to their local community.
For 25 years he combined his professional work as an engineer/management consultant with active involvement in his local church. Jon and his wife also enjoyed three years living in an international Christian community at Lee Abbey Devon.
Jon and his wife will be upping sticks from their current hometown of Yeovil and will be making the 235-mile journey to live somewhere in Cheshire, somewhere near Daresbury for his new role. "The commute from Yeovil to Church House, Daresbury and back each day would be just too long", he says.
Jon a keen musician, game player and bread maker, loves pottering in his garden, and meandering down a canal with friends whenever he gets the chance. “I’m really looking forward to join the team to help you bring your shared vision into reality. It’s a big vision – but one we can achieve if we work together and support each other.
I truly believe that the local church is the hope for our world - it’s the place where every person in our community can encounter God’s love in action, experience his transforming power, and find the life that Jesus offers.
So, I’m excited about the opportunity to encourage and resource everyone to play their part in blessing the 1.5 million people God has entrusted to us.”
Bishop Mark says of Jon's appointment, “I am delighted that Jon has agreed to join us as we develop and implement the strategic life of the Diocese. Jon brings a vast range of skills and wisdom in a range of church and business contexts and I very much look forward to working with him.”
