As the Church responds to the national coronavirus crisis and finds new ways to meet the needs of some of the most vulnerable in our society, the National Safeguarding Team (NST) has issued new guidance to help the Church observe good safeguarding practice.
Read the guidance from the NST.
The National Safeguarding Team advice to dioceses, cathedrals, and parishes, published on 26 March, offers advice in the following areas:
- Safeguarding of individuals
- Safer recruitment of new volunteers
- DBS renewals
- Coordinating volunteer efforts
The advice also highlights information provided by the Local Government Association which warns that strangers and cold callers are reported to be trying to exploit the elderly and vulnerable at this time. The advice says: "We must be alert, support our communities and ensure our outreach and ministry continues to be compassionate and safe."
