Journey into Light is an art exhibition made up of over 40 individual pieces created by prisoners at HMP Styal and HMP Thorn Cross, Cheshire. It has been touring the Diocese of Chester for the last year, with a number of churches playing host to the exhibition, giving thousands of people access to the artwork on display.
The aim of the exhibition is to demonstrate to visitors that behind every prisoner’s conviction and sentence is a personal story of love, hope and loss.
The final exhibition is to be held at Saint George's Church, Stockport on Tuesday 17 December and will be an opportunity to thank the artists and recognise the bravery they have shown to share their stories of love and hope. Everyone is welcome to attend. Guests will be treated to music, carols, and canapes at what it is hoped will be a joyful and hopeful finale to Journey into Light. More details can be found on our Eventbrite page.
The Archdeacon of Macclesfield spoke to BBC Radio 4 about the exhibition and explained how the diocese had been surprised at just how many people had been affected by the power of the messages and the stories behind the artworks.
