The Foundations for Ministry course helps people to understand how to hear where God is leading them. Helen Kershaw, a retired nurse, discovered that God was asking her to put her people skills to great use by continuing to be a Churchwarden, instead of the route she had envisaged before starting the course.
Helen started the course last September, finishing in April this year. Like others who have been on the Foundations for Ministry course, Helen learned how to understand more about herself and the skills and experience she could use to help others. Importantly she also learned to listen to what God was saying to her.
The course consists of 22 evening sessions, spread over three terms from September to April, and is for anyone exploring how they can serve God in the world and the Church. Before starting the course Helen had thought about working in chaplaincy or as a pastoral worker, but through a process of discernment and discovery, she felt herself being led in a different direction.
