Elections to the Diocesan Synod

The Diocesan Secretary, George Colville, says the process for elections to the Diocesan Synod is due to start with the issue of nomination papers to Deanery Synod members on 17 May. The deadline for returning them will be 11 June.

George Colville, Diocesan Secretary says: "The process for elections to the Diocesan Synod is due to start with the issue of nomination papers to Deanery Synod members by the 17 May for return by 11 June. The Rural Dean and Lay Chair will be acting as presiding officers for the election and issuing the nomination papers.

"Lay people do not need to be a member of a Deanery Synod to stand for election. Any layperson who is an actual communicant member of the Church of England of 16 years or over and whose name is on the electoral roll of any parish in the deanery (and in addition in the case of Chester Deanery is on the community roll of Chester Cathedral) can stand for election. Please contact the Rural Dean or a member of Deanery Synod for a nomination paper.

"The new Diocesan Synod will be in place for three years from 1 August 2021. The Synod meets on two occasions (with a third reserve date) in each year, usually on Saturday mornings in March, June (reserve), and November. Once in place, the Diocesan Synod will elect a new Chair of the House of Clergy, Chair of the House of Laity, and members of the various diocesan committees this autumn."
