Easter Rideout is a roaring success

On Saturday 19 April, the Bishop of Chester, Mark Tanner, led a special Easter Rideout to raise funds for vital transport needs in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The initiative aims to provide motorbikes to support education, healthcare, midwifery, and other essential services in remote areas that are only accessible by 125cc motorbikes.

“It’s incredible what a difference a single bike can make,” said Bishop Mark. “Just $1,000 is enough to get a brand-new motorbike on the road. We’re honoured to partner with the Dioceses of Aru and Boga in this life-changing work.”

The event, open to all riders, drew a fantastic turnout with over 40 participants joining the “Biking Bishops Biking Mission Fund” ride. The journey began at Church House in Daresbury, passed through Frodsham and Ellesmere Port, and made a stop at Bishop’s House in Chester, where riders enjoyed a hearty lunch of soup and sandwiches.

After lunch, the group took the scenic route back to Foxhill retreat house in Frodsham, where they wrapped up the ride with tea and cake.

While the original goal was to fund a single motorbike, Bishop Mark shared the joyful news that the ride had raised an impressive £5,147.58—with an additional £500 still expected.

This remarkable achievement was made possible thanks to the dedication of volunteers who manned the refreshment stops and also the Riding Stewards team, led by Paul Dawson, who ensured the group’s safety and smooth travel throughout the day.
