The Diocese of Chester has launched a contactless donation device for churches to try. Its first outing was at St Martin's in Aston Upon Mersey, which coincided with the first day of their Christmas tree festival.
"In a society in which fewer people carry cash, it makes sense to offer an alternative method for people to donate to their church." So says Digital Giving Adviser for the Diocese of Chester, Bessia Kanengoni. She has been working with the national church to provide churches across our diocese with a free trial of a contactless donation device for one month at a time. There are already several churches across the Diocese of Chester that have adopted the use of a contactless donation system, but for those that haven't made the transition, the scheme is a great way for them to see how it all works. "It's really very simple." says Bessia.
The scheme has had a great response and the device is already booked up until April 2023. In the video below, Bessia is joined by Catherine Cleghorn, Priest in Charge of St Martin's who explains that people have already been using it to make donations on its very first day in the church.
Even though the device has been booked for the next few months, Bessia is happy to talk with any parishes who might want to know more about having a contactless donation device of their own. "You don't need to wait to have a trail" she is keen to point out.
