Services of thanksgiving at Chester Cathedral and other locations around the diocese will be held this week ahead of the state funeral for the late Queen Elizabeth II on Monday 19 September.
At 3pm on Sunday, Chester Cathedral will hold its service of thankgiving which will be attended by the bishops and senior staff of the diocese. Civic leaders are also expected to attend.
There is limited seating available for the service and those wishing to attend must book a seat in advance. They will be released on a first-come-first-served basis.
Those unable to attend will be able to watch the service via the Cathedral's YouTube channel.
The Dean of Chester, Tim Stratford, says: "Many of us have lived our whole lives in this second Elizabethan period and should never take for granted the security and prosperity it has offered us. The Queen’s faith, wisdom, political acumen, charitable work and patronage have been an inspiration to many including myself. We celebrate and give thanks for her life praying for her soul and the wellbeing of our nation and Commonwealth as well as her close family in their mourning.”
Around the diocese, parishes of all size, churchmanship, and tradition are preparing to give thanks for the life of the late Queen.
Liturgy and prayers to assist parishes can be found on the Church of England website along with resources to assist schools in remembering the Queen and praying for the Royal Family.
Parishes are encouraged to list their services on A Church Near You and the diocesan website to ensure anyone searching for details of a local service can easily find them.
