Chester Cathedral will launch a debate forum this October to create a space where big topics affecting our local, national, and global communities such as climate change, free speech, the distribution of wealth, and issues of race and gender can be discussed, explored, and learnt about in a central space in Chester.
Assemble at Chester Cathedral will be a regular gathering space in the city centre where topics informed by community submission will be debated by high-profile speakers before a live audience with the opportunity for attendees to put questions to the speakers towards the end. The inaugural meeting of Assemble at Chester Cathedral will take place on Thursday 26 October at 6.45pm (refreshments available from 6.15pm) in the South Transept and will debate around the question Can we ‘Just Stop Oil’?
Speakers for this first meeting will come at this topic from range of viewpoints, with investment company CCLA and local electrical asset management company EA Technology represented on the panel alongside an ‘eco-warrior vicar’, the debate is set to be an engaging one which will encompass a range of topics covered in our daily press.
The Very Revd Dr Tim Stratford, Dean of Chester, says,
“Assemble is an exciting opportunity for us to engage with these topics as a community and explore what is most important to the people of Chester and Cheshire in a safe but thought- provoking way.
