St Michael's Church in Bramhall is hosting an arts festival between 27 September and 5 October, which promises to be bigger and more ambitious than their previous festivals, which often attracted 2000-3000 people.
Activities and events will cover visual arts including floristry, literature, music and cinema along with workshops where people can try their hand at acrylics, photography and ceramics.
The festival builds upon what they had done before, which were festivals centred around themes, such as Wizard of OZ and Narnia. They were huge undertakings that happened every two years and took 18 months of planning, and design. The church benefits from having a number of rooms available that it would transform into new visual and immersive experiences where volunteers would be dressed in costumes and play their parts to the full.
Revd Calum Piper shared the inspiration behind the festival: “Our vision at St Michael’s is to put Jesus at the heart of our community. We aim to partner with various organizations, schools, art groups, music groups, and community groups to foster a sense of community here in Bramhall.”
Calum emphasized the significant effort involved in organizing the festival, made possible by a dedicated team of hardworking volunteers. Festival Coordinator Louise Richardson noted that each festival has grown in scale and outreach: "We started small with the Angel Festival and built up from there, with gradually increasing our outreach into the community." And goes on to echo Calum's comments: "If you wanted to do such an event, you need to get a good group of people together."
