The Reverend Canon John Stanley, OBE, who is 90 on 20 May has challenged himself to walk the City Walls of Chester 90 times by his birthday. Proceeds will go towards the Faith Building Project at St. Mark’s church, Lache-cum-Saltney, where he and his wife worship; the Cathedral where his son-in-law is Dean; and to a hospital in Kampala, Uganda, providing vital Covid vaccinations.
This is a remarkable achievement. The Revd. Canon John Stanley was ordained priest in 1956 in Chester Cathedral, and has since held many different roles within the Church of England during his 64 years of ordained ministry. These included chaplain to Her Majesty the Queen, and Prolocutor for York for ten years. He recently retired to Chester in 2018, having spent the past 44 years as priest in the Parish church of Huyton in Liverpool Diocese.
If you would like to donate to these three extremely good, but different causes, do go to St. Mark’s and the money will then be divided between the three charities.
Also come and cheer John on, as he finishes his final 90th lap at approximately 4.40/45pm off the Wall at Abbey Street on Thursday 20 May 2021.
