Continuing Ministerial Development

Continuing Ministerial Development refers to the professional development work undertaken by licensed ministers to equip themselves to stimulate and enable the whole church to participate more fully in the mission of God in the world.

Continuing Ministerial Development is facilitated by a number of networks and supported by various means, including training events (all diocesan training is offered free of charge), sabbaticals, mentoring, coaching.

David Herbert is CMD Adviser. He increasingly sees the importance of helping licensed ministers organise themselves around their passions, interests and questions in ways that promote learning and continuing ministerial development recognising the importance of learning communities (often referred to as “action learning sets”) as a helpful structure for this. Examples of such networks include the Arts and Faith Network and a network for school chaplains. Future networks might focus on estates ministry and “slow ministry”. Notices about these are included in the fortnightly ebulletin.
