St Alban’s, Tattenhall recently brought together their community with a church fete that helped raise much-needed funds. Like many churches at this time, St Albans has been waiting for the day when they can, at last, return to organising the type of events that really bring the community together, where people can buy homemade cakes, pies, second-hand clothing and cups of tea and coffee. And let's not forget the tombola. Yes, we're talking about the quintessentially British, fete, and few do it better than churches.
Revd Canon Lameck Mutete, who is rector at St Albans says; “Unlocking the lockdown has become our Summer Mission here in Tattenhall. After a sensitive and moving service in remembrance of our loss during the pandemic and in thanksgiving to all who worked tirelessly to keep us safe, we have focussed on reconnecting our community and throwing open the doors with welcome and renewal."
The organisation was carefully handled with much thought given to maintaining Covid security, despite the event being held after the final lockdown ended. Lameck is keen to point out that they encouraged social distancing, hand sanitising and mask-wearing and adds that, holding the event outside added to the confidence in keeping the village safe.
Lameck says "Another key part of our fete was, keeping it local, and with the support of local butchers, grocers, businesses and generous individuals we sourced our popular BBQ, ice cream, afternoon teas and raffle prizes. Fundraising in difficult times to meet the constant pressure of The Parish Share is always with us, but our Fete Day was a day of reconnection and fellowship as old friends caught up after so many months of isolation."
