Praying for pupils returning to school

St Anne's, Sale wanted to show their support to children returning to school so they prayed for them. But in addition, they thought it might help the children if they knew that others were thinking of them in their prayers.

The Revd Canon Alison Cox is a governor at her local church school, St Anne’s Primary School. Being on the board she was aware that children were anxious about returning to school. The children would be facing a new and unfamiliar style of learning, with all the changes that accompany new social distancing measures in the classroom. Alison and others decided to pray for the children, but they also created two identical banners, one for outside of the school and one for outside of the church.

The message is simple, but it communicates to the children that others care, "St Anne's Church is praying for you."

Alison Cox said; "The headteacher of St Anne's Primary was thrilled and the plan is to use the banners at the start of each new term to remind them of our praying presence."
