Over the past year, over 100 parishioners have been knitting poppies for a display at Christ Church, Bebington, to mark the centenary of the Royal British Legion poppy appeal. In total, they have knitted over 10,000 poppies which now form a stunning installation outside the church, as well as being part of displays inside the building. The project is the brainchild of newly licensed Reader, Helen Byrne and is already a big draw for the local community.
The Revd Mike Loach, who is the vicar at Christ Church, says: "The knitted poppy installation has been such a blessing to the local community. We've been greatly touched by the many comments on social media and have had a steady stream of visitors to the church, some telling us that the display has moved them to tears. We're so grateful to our newly licensed Reader, Helen Byrne, and her partner, Terry, who have driven this project forward over the past year."
For the Fallen
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
