Ordinary people, extraordinary things

Ordinary people doing extraordinary things during the pandemic are to be honoured by The High Sheriff of Greater Manchester.

Dr Eamonn O’Neal DL, High Sheriff, has launched The Special Recognition Awards to publicly acknowledge the amazing acts of thoughtfulness and kindness being done by many people during the C-19 pandemic.

Eamonn said: “Every day I hear stories of individuals and groups doing extraordinary things for no other reason than they want to help. Often that thoughtfulness and kindness is directed at complete strangers.

“That’s one of the effects of the current situation; we seem to be more considerate, more neighbourly and more inclusive.

"I want to recognize and celebrate what people are doing. I would encourage everyone to think about who they could nominate, whether individuals or groups.”

Successful nominees will receive a special certificate and when the restrictions are lifted, they will be invited as special guests to join the High Sheriff at a prestigious celebration event.

Eamonn said: “This is a unique way of saying thank you to those who are providing an outstanding contribution to their communities. It’s very easy to nominate someone and it will be wonderful to honour them in this way.”

Nominations are open now. If you would like to nominate someone, download and complete the form below.
