Magnificat magnified in Hattersley

A modern day nativity video featuring a family from St Barnabas, Hattersley has been released by Proximity, part of the Message Trust that supports mission in urban churches in the form of blogs, videos, podcasts, teaching and downloadable content.

Vicar, Revd Sam Durdant-Hollamsby explains: “Matt, Louise, and Betty Britton were invited to take part in this film which takes a fresh look at Mary’s Magnificat. Filmed in and around the local area, the message encourages us to open our eyes to Mary’s reality and translate that into the struggles that some in our urban estates face daily. It has been created for use in Christmas services, so if it works in your context feel free to use it!”

Proximity’s promotional introduction to the film explains:

“Two thousand years before the Grammys ever existed, a young country girl and her older cousin used their voices and bodies to sing and dance and celebrate. Jesus is not yet born, but Mary and Elizabeth are already jumping for joy in anticipation of God’s upside-down kingdom breaking through. In this short video, Matt Britton reimagines what the language of the ‘Magnificat’ might sound like today on the streets of our estates."
