In his Maundy Thursday sermon at Chester Cathedral, the Bishop of Chester, Mark Tanner, urged the Diocese of Chester to "rediscover the freedom of doing the one thing we can do for God and to do it brilliantly."
Referencing some of the challenges the world and the Church is facing, Bishop Mark used the sermon to emphasise unity within the diocese, saying: "May we walk this day in the way of the cross and always be ready to share its weight."
"Unless we rediscover day-by-day what it is to carry our cross, we will not be able to serve the world in the 21 century, we will not be the Church that God shapes us to be, and we will not fully reflect Christ in this Good Friday ministry in which he entrusts to us."
