Last year, the National Church allocated 50 devices to the Diocese of Chester to distribute to parishes across our diocese. Now, six months on since the churches received the devices in September 2023, the fifty churches collectively have received £73,190 with the average contactless donation being £8.71 in the diocese.
The contactless donation devices have been enabling them to accept donations via a contactless card machine that automatically processes donations through the tap of a bank card (or a smartphone or smartwatch).
Bessia Kanengoni, Digital Giving Adviser for the Diocese of Chester, who has been overseeing the rollout of devices says: “It is so encouraging to see the donations churches have been able to receive from using their contactless devices. Donating using a contactless device isn’t for everyone, but for those, where tapping a card has become second nature, a digital giving device provides an easy way for them to make a donation that helps their church with the important work that they do within their community, helping their churches and communities both to flourish”.
Although the FREE devices have been distributed, the cost of acquiring such a device can be a worthwhile investment for churches. We do have available in the diocese a contactless device that churches can borrow for up to 4 Sunday’s or for one-off events where they anticipate receiving a lot of donations. If you would like to hear how a device can benefit your church or borrow a device, then please contact Bessia using the contact details below.
