Pastoral Support for Retired Clergy
The Diocese has two Retirement Officers who support retired clergy and clergy widow(er)s in a wide variety of ways. This may include arranging pastoral visits where appropriate and agreed with the individual. The officers work closely together to ensure the whole diocese is covered, they also work closely with the Archdeacons. They also are linked to a national network of retired clergy officers in other diocese organized by the Church Commissioners for the benefit of keeping abreast of resources that may benefit retired clergy and their families.
The Retirement Officers can also facilitate applications to a Diocesan fund which makes grants to those in need for one-off expenses. Regretfully there are insufficient resources to help with ongoing expenses such as care home fees etc.. They are able to point you to a list of charities that provide funds for retired clergy and widow(er)s in need.
They are always happy for the opportunity to speak with people either individually or through specific groups i.e. Deanery Chapters etc. on explaining the supporting role they provide, if that would be of interest to you please contact:-
