Bishop’s Officer for Self-Supporting Ordained Ministry

The Diocese of Chester is seeking to appoint a Bishop’s Officer for Self-Supporting Ordained Ministry

The Diocese of Chester has numerous Self-Supporting Ordained Ministers (SSMs) who hold the Bishop’s Licence but who are not in receipt of a stipend.

A Bishop’s Officer for Self-Supporting Ministry is sought who will:

  • Provide pastoral support for SSMs
  • Be involved in the selection and training of SSMs
  • Contribute towards wider policy matters

This role is not remunerated, but reasonable expenses in connection with the role, including travel and attendance at inter-diocesan SSM events, will be reimbursed.

It is anticipated that the post-holder will offer around seven hours per week on average to the role.

It would be an advantage for candidates to have had personal experience of SSM ministry, including working in secular employment alongside parish ministry.
