Goostrey

The parish of Goostrey in mid-Cheshire is seeking a part-time Vicar, who will occupy the vicarage and receive a pensionable stipend of 50% of that of a full-time incumbent (currently £12,513 pa).  The expectation is that the Vicar will work 3.5 days per week, plus Sundays.

The parish has a mixed community of over 2,000 inhabitants, and new housing is steadily being built in small developments.  As well as traditional rural life, many commute to work elsewhere, and the major scientific establishment of Jodrell Bank lies within the parish.

The churchmanship of the parish is broad and central, and a varied diet of worship is provided.  The parish used to have a Vicar who had other diocesan responsibilities, but more recently has been part of a united benefice with Swettenham.  Swettenham is now joining a larger rural group, and hence the part-time appointment at Goostrey.  The parish has a long history of strong lay leadership, and the new Vicar will be expected to work in a strongly collaborative way.

The historic, but large, former Vicarage, which lay on the outskirts of Goostrey, has recently been sold and a modern four bedroomed property is being purchased in the body of the village.

Further details are available in the Fact Sheet, Parish Profile, Annual Report, and local history of the parish.

The patronage of the parish lies with the Vicar of St Mary, Sandbach (Revd Thomas Shepherd), who has asked the Bishop to co-ordinate arrangements for the appointment.

A pastoral scheme to separate Goostrey from Sweetenham, and unite Sweetenham to another benefice, is making good progress, but if the scheme has not formally been made by the time the new Vicar is to be instituted, a temporary appointment, with right of institution to the new incumbency, will be arranged.
