On-line course for governors

A module specifically for governors of church schools has been developed by officers from DBE Services. The module entitled 'Governance of a church school' is available for all governors whose schools subscribe to Modern Governor and to all schools that are members of the Family of Schools regardless of whether their school subscribes to Modern Governor.

To access the module

  1. Go to http://www.moderngovernor.com/
  2. On the blue login box, click on ‘create new account’ and follow the on-screen instructions. When you are asked to choose your LA click on the box and scroll down and choose the ‘Diocese of Chester’
  3. The system will send you an automated email – click on the embedded link to confirm
  4. Enter your username and password in the boxes provided and click ‘log in’.

Regular Training

The Diocese provides a rolling two-year programme for governor training. A number of courses are repeated twice using different venues. Check the latest newsletter for information of current courses.

Information collected is names, addresses, e-mails and information regarding skills and experience and faith affiliation for foundation appointments.
It is collected by DBE officers
It is collected through electronic or hard copy application forms
It is collected for the following purposes:

  •    In order to inform the application procedure for appointment of foundation Governors, Directors and Members to Church of England schools and academies

It will be used in the following ways:

  •   Retained in hard copy and electronic copy
  •   Details added to a database
  •   Name and address shared with schools/academies and LAs (for maintained schools) to inform them of appointment to post.

Recipients of this information will be:

  • Clerks, Chairs, headteachers of schools/academies to which the person is appointed will be notified of names and addresses.

The period for which the information will be stored is until the end of the decision making process and for those appointed until the end of the term of office or at their resignation.
Each person has the right to access their data, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing, and data portability;
Each person also has the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (the “ICO”) about the management of their data
