Food Poverty- Resources, Reports and Responses

Why is CSR updating and collecting data?

The recent report ‘A Route Map to Ending Hunger As We Know It In the UK’ describes the changing extent and causes of hunger in this country. Feeding Britain, the group behind the report are asking for help to uncover the extent of hunger in the UK.

Our first step is to locate and to find out the name and numbers of foodbanks/providers in our diocese.

“An effective anti-hunger strategy must be guided by a robust set of data. Ideally this data would give the public some idea of the numbers of people on a daily basis who are at risk of going without food.” (Taken from ‘A route map to ending hunger as we know it in the UK’.)

One of the recommendations of the report asks Archbishops and Bishops to ‘attempt to compile data from within their own Dioceses on the;
• number of food banks run by the Trussell Trust
• number that are run on an independent basis
• number of other charitable providers of food
and the numbers of people relying on their assistance.’
