undefined ‘Sponsor-a-Stone’ for New Brighton's big spire
The restoration of the spire of St James’ church, New Brighton, is into the final phases now – and the parish is very pleased with its latest fundraising scheme, ‘Sponsor-a-Stone’.
undefined Tractor and plough blessing
It wasn’t just the plough that was blessed at the Plough Service held at St Mary and St Michael church, Burleydam, south Cheshire, recently – a tractor was too. Archdeacon Ian Bishop is PICTURED outside the church with Priest-in-Charge, the Revd Alison Fulford, her husband Ben, Joshua Swain (owner of the tractor) and two local children.
undefined Run for fun and a good cause – at Oulton Park
St Peter’s church, Little Budworth, is holding a sponsored family fun run at nearby Oulton Park – which usually hosts car and motorbike races. The fun run will raise money for the organ restoration fund at St Peter’s.
undefined Bishop Libby – a year on from her consecration
On the 26th January 2016 it will be a year since the Rt Revd Libby Lane made history by becoming the Church of England’s first woman bishop. Since her consecration as Bishop of Stockport she has responded to hundreds of letters and invitations to attend events or speak. She has also received a number of requests to have her portrait painted (see end of this story) and be featured in photographic exhibitions.

Two bishops from the Anglican Church of Melanesia (ACoM) came to Church House, Daresbury before going on to visit several other places in our diocese. The Bishop of Guadalcanal, the Rt Revd Nathan Tome (currently acting senior bishop in ACoM); and the Bishop of Banks and Torres in Vanuatu, the Rt Revd Patteson Worek, are PICTURED.
undefined Life-saving campaigner and parishioner gets award
A paramedic and parishioner from Runcorn is celebrating after being honoured in the Queen's New Year honours list. Steve Evans is due in March to receive his MBE for services to the NHS ambulance service and for his voluntary work in helping young people. A member of Saint Berteline’s church (St Bert’s) in Norton, Runcorn, Steve is a PCC member.

Wirral Men’s Breakfast – aimed at Christian men - is a regular event with guest speakers that’s held every second month at Thornton Hall Hotel, Thornton Hough, Wirral. The first speaker in the 2016 programme is Gary Grant, founder of the big toy business, The Entertainer.

Parishioners from the united benefice of Acton, Church Minshull, Worleston and Wettenhall, together with members of the local agricultural community, gathered on 10 January to celebrate the new farming year with a Plough Sunday service held at Reaseheath College, Nantwich.

All Saints church in Cheadle Hulme has launched a new weekly group for pre-school children and their parents or carers – and the the demand for the sessions has proved so high that there is already a waiting list.

This will take place at Chester University on Thursday 3 March. The speaker will be Professor Haddon Willmer (PICTURED). He will speak in the main lecture hall at the University of Chester’s Riverside Campus (the former County Hall) from 7pm to 9pm. Refreshments will be served from 6.30pm.
undefined Canon Betty Renshaw leaves her post as Chair of the DBF
Betty Renshaw has come to the end of her term as chair of the Diocesan Board of Finance after serving in the role since 2006. A long-term member of St Michael’s, West Kirby, where she has served in a variety of roles, including treasurer and secretary of the PCC, Betty is currently the parish gift aid officer. And she continues to serve as: a lay member of General Synod; a member of Bishop’s Council; a director of the Diocesan Board of Education; and a director of the Chester Academies Trust.

An interview with the Bishop of Chester - in which he talks about his journey into faith, his background as a scientist and his time as a curate in Liverpool - will be broadcast on Monday 18 January from 1.30pm to 2.30pm on Flame Radio 1521 AM. It will be repeated on Tuesday 19 January (8pm to 9pm), on Friday 22 January (4pm to 5pm) and on Saturday 23 January (2.30pm to 3.30pm).

Six impressive painted panels have been installed at the church hall of St Mary’s, Weaverham. They are the work of parishioner Steph Driver. They feature images of Christian symbols such as the cross, a chalice, fishes, vines and the crown of thorns.
undefined Two new people join Transforming Lives Together
Two new part-time staff members have been appointed to replace the Revd Jenny Mayo Lythall, our previous Development Worker for Transforming Lives Together (TLT). Kath Leigh will work 3.5 days a week as Lead Community Builder and focus her work in Macclesfield Archdeaconry. Wendy Robertson will work as Community Builder for three days a week in Chester Archdeaconry.
undefined An honour for Canon Keith Ineson
The head of the Cheshire Agricultural Chaplaincy, Canon Keith Ineson (PICTURED), has been awarded a British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to agriculture. Keith, a former hill farmer who now lives in Wimboldsley, near Middlewich, took on his chaplaincy role in the year 2000.
