Chester Cathedral held a networking evening for business and tourism stakeholders at the end of last month (February 2016). The South Transept hosted Italian chef Francesco Gotti, and some chefs from the cathedral’s own refectory, to cook pasta and canapes for the visitors.

Hoylake’s impressive parish church, Saint Hildeburgh’s, will host a flower festival in the summer – and Pam Rhodes, from TV’s Songs of Praise, will present a feature on best-loved hymns as part of it.

The brigade’s Noctorum company, Wirral, reports a great year, having recruited new members and retained longstanding members. Karen Cairns, company captain, said: “We have taken part in all the battalion activities this year, where the children meet up with members from all our other companies. The youngsters always love these activities and get on extremely well."

The Mothers’ Union in Chester diocese celebrated the start of a new triennium on Saturday 16 January, with a commissioning service in Chester Cathedral for the new Diocesan President, Vivien Ley, the trustees and officers. The Rt Revd Keith Sinclair, Bishop of Birkenhead officiated.

This coming summer there will be a big arts festival at St George’s church, Heaviley, Stockport – and the parish is seeking artists and craftspeople to display and run workshops. The theme for the event is Noah and his Ark.

An historic agreement recognising the longstanding ecumenical partnership between the Church of Scotland and the Church of England has been backed by the General Synod. The Bishop of Chester (PICTURED) moved the motion.

Twins John and Peter Manning celebrated their 86th birthdays in January this year. They have been members of the choir at St Andrew's with St John the Baptist, Crewe, for 79 years, without a break.

Our diocese held its annual day of encouragement for vocations on Saturday January 30 at Foxhill Retreat and Conference Centre in Frodsham. More than 65 people attended to explore the four licensed ministries of ordained, Reader, Pastoral Worker and Church Army.
