undefined It’s time … for Christmas Tree festivals!
These are taking place across our diocese and are becoming an increasingly popular feature. For the first time Chester Cathedral is hosting a tree festival - it's now underway, and a big one held annually at St George’s church, Heaviley, Stockport, has just taken place.

A Reader-in-training from St Mary’s, Tilston, south of Chester, is putting his skills as a professional art teacher to good use in spreading the Gospel’s good news. Chis Gilbert, a former teacher at a RC secondary school in Bootle, now freelances as the ‘Art and Soul Man’ … going into schools offering art-based or faith-based assemblies and projects.

An event called 'Dedication 2014' will be held in Partington on Friday 10 January on the theme of ‘one church united for His glory’. It’s being organised for all denominations by Anglican Simon Geddes of St Mary’s Church, following a similar event for his own church last year.

It is Marriage Week UK coming up in February next year – an annual nationwide focus for couples to take time to pause and learn some new skills to strengthen your relationships. The campaign – backed by bodies including the Church and the Mothers’ Union - believes that a wedding day is only the start and that all marriages can get better and better with each passing year.

Archbishop of York John Sentamu is pictured visiting All Saints, Cheadle Hulme – to mark the culmination of a year of celebrations for the church’s 150th anniversary. Archbishop John asked for all the young people to gather at the front of the church where he encouraged them to be as “living stones and vine branches”.
undefined Get ready for breath-taking vistas at Chester Cathedral
A restoration company working onsite at Chester Cathedral celebrated recently (October 2013) when site manager Gary Shea was recently named as 2013 Construction Manager of the Year. Gary works for William Anelay Ltd – a firm that is working on the ‘Cathedral at Height’ visitor attraction, which will open to the public during Easter 2014.

Three bishops from our diocese met Pope Francis while on an ecumenical visit to Rome for a residential staff (senior leadership team) meeting.

Nearly 400 people attend the launch of ‘Runcorn Life’ – an evangelistic mission to the town. The event featured an interview with the former British, Commonwealth, and European Boxing Union (EBU) and world super featherweight boxing champion Alex Arthur.

undefined Street Pastors launch in Congleton
An evening of worship at Congleton Town Hall was held to mark the launch Street Pastors locally. Street pastors are Christian adults who undergo training in order to voluntarily patrol the streets of town centre at night, helping and caring for people in practical ways.

Christian leaders from the Church Lads and Church Girls Brigade – including some from Wirral – attended a weekend camp with leaders from the Jewish Lads and Girls Brigade recently.

A conversation followed by a brainstorming session – between a Women’s Institute secretary and a vicar – led eventually to a prize-winning event being held in Haslington, near Crewe.

The Vicar of Alderley Edge is swimming the English Channel – without ever leaving our diocese. The Revd Jane Parry has taken the challenge to swim the equivalent distance of Dover to Calais at her local swimming pool to raise funds for the St Philip and St James Church spire fund.

A ‘noughties’ party was held earlier this year for 11 members of the congregation of St Mary's with Christ Church, Halton, Runcorn. The idea was to celebrate a year of parishioners celebrating zero-ending birthdays.
undefined A reminder of God’s love for EVERYONE!
The ‘Mind Your Head’ show – which featured an actress highlighting examples of how Christians can be affected by mental health problems – was a big success back in October. The drama was performed by writer and actress Eva McIntyre at St Michael's, Newton, Chester, and drew an audience of more than 100 people.
