undefined 20th anniversary of +Peter’s consecration
This November (13th) will be the 20th anniversary of +Peter’s consecration as Bishop of Chester. I am sure the whole diocese will want to express a hearty congratulations to him for his service and ministry. You may well have a particular reason for thanks and gratitude.
undefined New Director of CSR.
Mrs Debbie Dalby has been appointed as the new Director of CSR. Debbie is currently the CEO of Healthwatch Warrington and prior to that held the posts of Director of Church and Society and then Head of Mission and Ministry for the Diocese of Manchester. Debbie is also an ordinand in the Diocese of Chester.

Mrs Lisa Moncur has been appointed as our new Diocesan Registrar. Lisa is an experienced property solicitor, who is keen to serve the Church in this new role. She has been a Churchwarden at Holy Trinity, Hurdsfield. The Diocesan Registry has also relocated to Church House, where both Archdeacons now work, along with the Safeguarding Adviser and other core staff.

This Christmas the Church of England will be launching a new website inviting people across the country to attend local parish services at Christmas.
undefined Attendance statistics show service to millions
New Church of England statistics for 2015 have been published and show that just under one million people attend services each week. The survey, carried out over four weeks in October 2015, found 960,000 people attending church each week, with 820,000 adults and 140,000 children. Schools services added a further 160,000 attenders.

Gender and sustainable transformation:exploring the difference women make in society. I have been asked to give the William Temple Annual Lecture in Oxford. It got me thinking. As the charity Christian Aid has claimed, in the 21st century, “Poverty still has a woman’s face.”
undefined Bishops host conference on welcoming refugees
The bishops of Manchester and Stockport will host a conference aimed at equipping individuals, churches and communities to respond practically to the needs of refugees and asylum seekers. The conference will be held at Salford University on Saturday 19 November 2016.

Bookings are now being taken for the 2017 Step Forward event which will take place on Saturday 4th February 2017 at Bishopthorpe in York. Hosted by Archbishop Sentamu, this exciting free event is for anyone aged 18 – 30 who is considering ordained ministry in the Anglican Church and has been a real help in encouraging vocations.

Jeff Turnbull, our Diocesan Director of Education, has announced that he is to retire in April 2017. Jeff has been in the role for the past 25 years. Bishop Libby, who chairs the Board of Education, said, "I want to acknowledge the significant contribution Jeff has played in supporting and promoting all the work of the Board over so many years."
undefined 150th anniversary of Reader Ministry
2016 marks the 150th anniversary of the establishment of Reader ministry in the Church of England. There have been national events, deanery events – and then on Saturday, 15 October, a diocesan celebration in the Cathedral. Bishop Libby led the service and gave licences to eight new Readers and a further four who have transferred into parishes in the diocese.

St. Thomas’s in Liscard is running a unique competition this autumn. The challenge is to create a freestanding angel, great or small, from any combination of recyclable material, feathers and silky material, junk and salvage, wood and metal or card and paper.
undefined Cathedral Zumbathon
Imagine 500 people dancing to music in a cathedral! This is what is happening at Chester cathedral to raise money for BCC Children in Need on Friday 18th November. A Zumbathon in a cathedral is a world first, and we are hoping that you will join in and help spread the word!
undefined YBIBLE Launch Event
On the evening of 15th September about 300 people attended the Cathedral for the Launch of YBible. There were clergy, readers and other church members from across the Diocese. Everyone received a welcome pack which included a copy of the 52 Thoughts book, a selection of favourite Bible verses with reflections.

A group of Mothers’ Union members recently met to compare notes with a visitor from Nigeria. Christianah Akanbi runs a company in Ife, Nigeria, which makes church vestments and clerical shirts.
undefined New appointment for Bishop Libby
Bishop Libby has been appointed as Vice Chair to the Board of Trustees of the Children’s Society. The Children’s Society works in close partnership with the Church of England to improve the lives of children and young people across the country.
