undefined Festival was a ‘cracking’ success
Parishioners at St. Thomas’ church, Stockport, enjoyed a fantastic Easter Egg Festival. The highlight was a display of over 100 giant eggs from 50 community groups, schools, charities and businesses.

Woodchurch High School (pictured) in Wirral has become a full Church of England Academy. The change in the secondary school’s status became official only recently.
undefined A Rose Queen crowning in Wallasey
St Mary's Church, Withins Lane, Liscard, will hold a Rose Queen event on Saturday 12 July from 1pm to 4pm. The crowning of the Rose Queen will take place at 1.30pm at the church, which is in Wallasey, Wirral. Alll are welcome to attend.
undefined Lent knitting project in Knutsford
The idea for this project by the parish of St Cross in Knutsford was inspired by the 2014 retreat led by the Revd Magdalen Smith, Associate Priest at Wilmslow. The retreat was based on Magdalen’s book ‘Steel Angels: The Personal Qualities of a Priest’ (due to be published 19 June by SPCK, priced £10.99 or cheaper via Amazon).
undefined Walk, ride, worship!
There will be a special service for walkers and cyclists at St Stephen’s church (the Forest Chapel, PICTURED) in Macclesfield Forest (off the A537 road) on Sunday 1 June. The service will start at 3pm and feature songs, hymns, readings and prayers in celebration of the beautiful hilly countryside around the chapel.

In this town built on salt (literally and economically) the Winnington parish (St Luke’s) is working closely with Salt of the Earth, a local Cheshire charity, to put on an afternoon of celebration, crafts and displays.
undefined Business fair at Bowdon
St Mary’s church, Bowdon, near Altrincham, will hold a business fair (the fourth such event it has organised) on Wednesday 7 May. The fair is free to exhibitors and visitors alike. Those running the display stands make special offers of their goods and services during the day.

St Matthew’s Church, Edgeley, Stockport, is becoming a hub for the community through its @SaturdayCafe initiative. Using connections built up over recent years from other community events, St Matthew’s is now a hive of activity on Saturday mornings

The DIOCESAN LAY CONFERENCE – to be held in Swanwick, Derbyshire in May – will feature expert talks, workshops and lots of opportunities for fellowship, worship and spiritual reflection. It all takes place in a lovely setting. There will also be entertainment from a comedy magician!
undefined A fond farewell to Bishop Robert
Christians from across our diocese and beyond said farewell to Bishop Robert Atwell at a service held at St George’s church, Stockport. The departing Bishop of Stockport – who is to become the Bishop of Exeter in the summer – preached at the service. He urged Christians to make a difference to the lives of the communities in which they live.
undefined And ‘Cathedral at Height’ has opened …
Chester Cathedral’s new visitor attraction, Cathedral at Height, proved popular with tourists and locals during its opening weekend. Eight intrepid tour groups ascended the cathedral’s central tower - with tower tickets a near sell-out.
undefined Family fun day planned for cathedral
The Mothers’ Union (Diocese of Chester) will be having a Family Fun Day on Saturday 12 July (2014) from 11.30am to 3.30pm at Chester Cathedral. Visitors will be invited to join in the Cathedral Service of Worship after the event.

The diocesan communications officers are to host a free one-day course covering the basic principles of photography, websites and media handling. It will be held at Foxhill, our diocesan conference and spiritual centre in Frodsham, on Wednesday 28 May, from 10am to 3.30pm.
undefined A pilgrimage to the Holy Land
A pilgrimage to the Holy Land will be led by the Revd Canon Chris Samuels in the autumn. It will include visits to Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Galilee and Nazareth, and will provide an opportunity for pilgrims to meet and worship with local Christians.
undefined A lecture by former Archbishop of Canterbury
The former Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, will deliver his inaugural lecture for the University of Chester in the summer. The world-renowned scholar – who was appointed as Gladstone Professor of Literature and Theology at the university in 2011 – presents ‘The Messiah and the Novelist: Approaches to Jesus in Fiction’.
