Parishioners at St Thomas' Church, Stockport, are celebrating the recent opening of a new project which will transform the grade-I listed church to better serve the needs of the local community.

Churches Together in Alderley gathered on Castle Rock, Alderley Edge, to celebrate Ascension Day with a Eucharist. With a view of the Cheshire Plain all around her as she led the service, the Revd Jane Parry reflected on local Christians’ commitment to be the light of Christ in the world.

Chester Cathedral Nave Choir will be joined by a special guest for an upcoming choral concert at the cathedral. Philip Moore, an English composer and organist who until recently was Director of Music at York Minster, will be in attendance to hear his works being performed on Saturday 21 June, starting at 7.30pm

undefined ‘Blestival 2014’ – creative, meaningful and fun!
The Diocese of Chester’s weekend away for 11 to 16-year-olds was this year themed on the ‘Exodus’. The Revd JACKY WISE reports on it … It was probably the smallest group that the Diocese of Chester has hosted for its annual Blestival weekend, but small is, as they say, beautiful, and what a blessed weekend away it turned out to be.
undefined Congleton Street Pastors commissioned
The Congleton Street Pastors were formally commissioned during a service of thanksgiving held at Congleton URC on Friday 23 May. The team pictured is drawn from a variety of churches all over the town. All have now completed several months of training and are ready to step forward and out onto the streets.
undefined A discipleship conference in Africa
The Rt Revd Johannes D’Angelo, the Bishop of Bondo in Kenya, made a short visit to our diocese this week to talk with the Archdeacon of Macclesfield, the Ven Ian Bishop, about organising a ‘Rooted in Jesus’ discipleship conference in his diocese. The conference is due to take place in late April early May 2015.

There was cage football, team-building, music, food and sharing of our faith values going on among young people in Runcorn earlier this month (May 2014). The Grange School and the car park at St Andrew’s Church were two of the venues where a lively ministry was exercised by two Christian youth ministry teams, NOMAD (part of Youth for Christ) and Street 360.
undefined ‘Scoff a coffee’ fundraiser in Hoylake
The annual ‘scoff a coffee’ morning at St Hildeburgh's church (pictured), Hoylake, Wirral, will place on Saturday 31 May from 10.30am to noon. It’s a lively, friendly occasion held in the church centre, which opens on to a terrace in the church’s bluebell wood.
undefined A new worker helping diocese tackle poverty
Church House in Daresbury has welcomed the Revd Jenny Mayo-Lythall as the new Development Worker for Transforming Lives Together (TLT). TLT is a joint venture between Church Urban Fund and the Diocese of Chester which aims to inspire parishes to engage with their local communities on issues of poverty.

A conference about raising awareness of mental health and wellbeing, and equipping parishes to provide support, will be held at St John’s Centre, Hartford on World Mental Health Day, Friday 10 October. The conference is being jointly organised by Chester, Liverpool and Manchester dioceses.

The Rt Revd Paul Bayes (pictured) – currently the Bishop of Hertford – is to be the eighth Bishop of our neighbouring Diocese of Liverpool. His appointment was announced by 10 Downing Street.
undefined Hear Brother Yun’s inspiring Christian story
A Christian who spent many years imprisoned in China is to give a talk at St Mary’s church, Upton, Wirral next month. Brother Yun (pictured) – who escaped from Zhengzhou Maximum Security prison in China (from which it is reported that nobody had previously escaped) – will tell his story and answer questions at St Mary’s on Friday 13 June, starting at 7.30pm.
