St Wilfrid’s church, Mobberley (just north-east of Knutsford), will hold its annual church fair at the Rajar building in Town Lane on Saturday 15 November between 10am and 2pm.
undefined Wirral Rector to become Bishop of Huddersfield
The Revd Dr Jonathan Gibbs, currently Rector of Heswall, is to become the Bishop of Huddersfield in the Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales. He will be consecrated in his ministry as an area (assistant) bishop on Friday 17 October at York Minister. He will be the first Bishop of Huddersfield.

A group of young people from Alsager in the south of our diocese plan a visit to South Africa to assist a project that works for the poor and the disadvantaged. But first a fundraising concert featuring guitarist Gordon Giltrap will take place at St Mary’s church in Crewe Road.

A trio of toy dwarves have been raising awareness of the Mothers’ Union and its projects. The dwarves were the idea of MU’s Social Concern chair in our diocese, Joan Colwell, who persuaded Middlewich deanery MU team to adopt Grumpy, Dopey and Happy as fundraisers.

The Wellspring – a resource centre in Stockport for homeless and disadvantaged people – has been presented with The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. Wellspring is on Harvey Street behind the Robinsons’ Brewery in the town centre. It is supported by local churches and staffed by volunteers.

An illustrated book about the history of St John the Evangelist church in Sandiway near Northwich is being compiled. The sandstone church was built in 1903 to meet the needs of a growing local population.

Saint Alban’s church, Broadheath, entered a float in the Altrincham Festival parade. Water Aid was the theme so the float had a number of bathroom facilities planted up with donated flowers and an operating water pump in the bath.
undefined A lecture about a much-loved Christian poet
The Hopkins Society’s annual lecture this autumn will be given by Nicholas Sagovsky on the theme of 'Gerard Manley Hopkins S.J. The Poet as Theologian'. It will take place at the Creative Campus of Liverpool Hope University, Shaw Street, Liverpool on Saturday 18 October.

A few weeks ago Archdeacon Ian Bishop went to a PCC meeting at Tintwistle, where the parish is in vacancy and facing some big problems. There are huge parish share arrears and a hole in the church roof. When Archdeacon Ian visited there was no-one stepping forward to be churchwarden. Frankly, closure looked on the cards but suddenly new hope has emerged …
undefined A hen party in the cathedral!
Chester Cathedral hosted its first hen party celebration when ten women (all workers at Church House, Daresbury) went on the ‘Cathedral at Heights’ tour. The afternoon event, held last month (July), involved a climb to the top of the tower and a walk around various nooks and crannies in the ancient building.

Actor George Takei went to the top of Chester Cathedral tower while on a visit to the city recently. The star – Mr Sulu in sci-fi TV drama Star Trek and in six spin-off movies – went on the ‘Cathedral at Height’ tour with his partner Brad Altman.

A new Christian community has started up in Crewe. ‘Restore’ is part of the ‘Fresh Expressions’ movement. The Revd Tim Watson is the leader of ‘Restore’, which will have a focus on the arts and has an ambitious plan to open an arts centre in Crewe.

St Alban’s church, Offerton, Stockport, has been granted £1,020 funding from the Church Urban Fund (CUF) for the building of a community garden. The garden – which will be created in church grounds on Marple Road – is intended to be used to teach local people how best to grow healthy food.

Piva (pictured), a leading early music group, will perform ‘Measure for Measure – music from Shakespeare’s time’ at St Mary’s Church, Astbury, Congleton, CW12 4RQ on Saturday 6 September, starting at 7.30pm.
undefined Big summer art exhibition at Acton
This ambitious arts event was held at St Mary’s church, Acton, Nantwich, earlier this month (July). The theme for the exhibition was World War I and Acton in 1914. The exhibition consisted of pieces of work beautifully presented by every child from the primary school.
