A communications specialist from Melanesia in the South Pacific visited the communications department at Church House, Daresbury, recently. Aldrin Peloko - who lives in the Solomon Islands – also attended a Church of England communications conference in Birmingham.
undefined Whoops! Slip at a wedding causes media waves
A Stockport Rector taking a wedding service slipped and broke his wrist – but went on to finish the ceremony and wave off the happy couple. It was towards the end of the service when photographs were being taken at St Mary’s Church, central Stockport that the Revd Roger Scoones (PICTURED) fell to the ground after accidentally slipping on the train of the bride’s dress.

Congleton’s MP Fiona Bruce will be sharing her favourite music and talking about her life and her Christian beliefs at an event inspired by long-running BBC radio programme ‘Desert Island Discs’. The event will take place at St Peter’s Church in Chapel Street, Congleton on Saturday 13 September, starting at 7.30pm. The Tory MP will be interviewed by the Ven Ian Bishop, Archdeacon of Macclesfield.`

A good way to educate children about the meaning of Christmas is by giving them a copy of the Real Advent Calendar 2014. Each calendar comes with a booklet explaining the meaning of Christmas story and Advent.

Two special theatre and music events to commemorate Word War 1 are to tour our area soon, including some to be staged in church premises. Others will take place at railway stations (from where so many of the troops departed 100 years ago).

The Vicar of St Andrew’s, Crewe, the Revd Canon Bill Baker, married Pat Evans recently, after postponing the ceremony back in May because of illness. They are PICTURED with the Archdeacon of Macclesfield, the Ven Ian Bishop, who officiated.

undefined Wirral Rector to become Bishop of Huddersfield
The Revd Dr Jonathan Gibbs, currently Rector of Heswall, is to become the Bishop of Huddersfield in the Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales. He will be consecrated in his ministry as an area (assistant) bishop on Friday 17 October at York Minister. He will be the first Bishop of Huddersfield.

A group of young people from Alsager in the south of our diocese plan a visit to South Africa to assist a project that works for the poor and the disadvantaged. But first a fundraising concert featuring guitarist Gordon Giltrap will take place at St Mary’s church in Crewe Road.

A trio of toy dwarves have been raising awareness of the Mothers’ Union and its projects. The dwarves were the idea of MU’s Social Concern chair in our diocese, Joan Colwell, who persuaded Middlewich deanery MU team to adopt Grumpy, Dopey and Happy as fundraisers.
undefined Top award for a valued charity in Stockport
The Wellspring – a resource centre in Stockport for homeless and disadvantaged people – has been presented with The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. Wellspring is on Harvey Street behind the Robinsons’ Brewery in the town centre. It is supported by local churches and staffed by volunteers.

An illustrated book about the history of St John the Evangelist church in Sandiway near Northwich is being compiled. The sandstone church was built in 1903 to meet the needs of a growing local population.
