undefined The consecration of Bishop Dr Jonathan Gibbs
Jonathan Gibbs – formerly Rector of Heswall – has been consecrated at York Minister as the first ever Bishop of Huddersfield. Jonathan is the Area Bishop of Huddersfield in the new Diocese of West Yorkshire and the Dales. He joins the episcopal team led by the Rt Revd Nick Baines, Bishop of Leeds and diocesan bishop. Bishop Jonathan is PICTURED HERE with Bishop Nick after the consecration on Friday 17 October.
undefined Why they all wore pink …
Staff at Church House, Daresbury, wore pink on Friday 24 October – to show support for the battle to find a cure for breast cancer. Donations came pouring in for the Breast Cancer Campaign. The ‘Wear it Pink’ day was organised at Church House by Maxine Southwick, our Finance and HR Officer.
undefined Church Army work praised at community celebration
Community leaders and supporters from around Cheshire gathered to celebrate the work of Church Army and the positive impact it is having in our diocese. More than 90 people attended the celebration event at the National Waterways Museum in Ellesmere Port to hear about the community and outreach work.

Nine new Readers were admitted and licensed by Bishop Peter at Chester Cathedral on Saturday 18 October. undefined A great harvest thanksgiving at Shotwick
St Michael’s church in Shotwick (population just 120) celebrated a harvest thanksgiving service on Sunday 12 October. The church was beautifully decorated with flowers, sheaves of wheat and maize, produce and a traditional bread wheat sheaf. More than 85 family members attended the service which was led by Vicar, the Revd Cathy Helm.
undefined Tackling poverty in Macclesfield
Civic and business leaders from across Cheshire attended the launch of 'Transforming Lives Together' (TLT). The Bishop of Chester, the Archdeacon of Macclesfield, the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire and David Rutley MP, were all present at the ‘Cre8’ (a church-supported social enterprise based project in Macclesfield) to support the start of a new venture that seeks to alleviate poverty across the county.

Bishop Peter presided at the licensing service held in Chester Cathedral. He preached on themes of the central place of pastoral ministry since the church’s earliest days – based on the parable of the sheep and goats. “What we do is a direct encounter with Christ himself,” he said.

undefined A big Christian resources show
Manchester is the venue for the Christian Resources Exhibition North to be held at Event City near the Trafford Centre on Wednesday and Thursday, 8 and 9 October. It’s a return to the region and the venue (in Phoenix Way, Manchester M41 7TB) after a successful time there in 2012.
undefined Two EXTRA reasons to thank God for bountiful harvests
Vegetable gardens have been blooming in churchyards across the diocese this year. The congregation of St Peter’s church, Macclesfield, have transformed a redundant car park and part of the church yard into a community garden.
undefined Young Christians doing service in Wallasey
Forty-nine young people and leaders from Heswall Youth Fellowship (YF) went over to Wallasey to work for the local community for three days this summer. The visit impacted the lives of many young people – both volunteers and those they helped. After much prayerful preparation, and in consultation with several church leaders in Wallasey, three teams were involved in mission work in Seacombe, Liscard and Leasowe.

A play about the life of St Francis of Assisi will be performed at the church named after him in Sale Moore. ‘The Life of St Francis’ is a funny and inspiring drama featuring Italian actor and writer Mario Pirovano (pictured).
undefined Learn how to help local schools – and be inspired!
A special day has been organised to encourage adults to get involved with schools and help young people learn and develop. It will take place on Saturday 11 October at Stockport Academy, Heathbank Road (just off the M56 and the M60), from 10am to 3.30pm.
undefined Archbishop’s book shows how faith can change lives
The Archbishop of York is to launch a book of transformational faith stories which features (among others) the case of Stefan Heathcote – formerly of a church-supported social enterprise based in Macclesfield. In ‘John Sentamu’s Hope Stories’ the Archbishop introduces the stories of 20 people who’ve gone through difficult times – including terminal illness or life-changing injuries, bereavement, suicide attempts, debt, rejection by their family, and addictions to drink and to drugs.
undefined Parish backing for a great community festival
A special service will be held at St Matthew’s church, Stockport, to launch a week-long festival for people with vision and / or hearing difficulties. ‘See & Hear Stockport’ will take place at Walthew House, in Shaw Heath, Stockport, SK2 6QS, from Monday 29 September to Saturday 4 October.
