undefined Archdeacon Ian supports White Ribbon Day
The Ven Ian Bishop, Archdeacon of Macclesfield, has pledged his support for the White Ribbon Campaign by posting a picture of himself on social media site Facebook. White Ribbon Day (Tuesday 25 November) is an international campaign, started by men, committed to ending violence against women and girls in this country and abroad.
undefined Art and music at church’s special Advent day
St Mary’s church in Whitegate, mid-Cheshire, will feature lots of figures made of willow, fabric and flowers on Saturday 13 December. The tableaux – created by the ladies of the church flower group – will include a nativity scene. It’s all part of the rural church’s Advent Gift Day.

Gertie Kallin (pictured) offers talks on Jewish faith and culture to various organisations, including parishes, and they have proved to be rather popular. There is no charge for Gertie’s presentations, but a donation to a charity is encouraged.
undefined Who's up for fresh expression of ‘flash mob’?
Members of St Mary’s church in Upton, Wirral, are preparing to use the flash mob technique again to attract local people to their Christmas services. Sainsbury’s and Homebase stores in the village both allowed a group from the parish to do a three-minute ‘flash mob carol’ during the busy shopping time a few days before Christmas last year.
undefined Bromborough church celebrates 150th anniversary
150 years have passed since the present parish church of St Barnabas in Bromborough, Wirral, was consecrated. The anniversary was marked on Monday 17 November. A commemorative tree was planted, a time capsule buried, and a special service was held.
undefined Remembering the war dead in Birkenhead
Two members of the 9th Birkenhead North Brownies, Charlotte Crammond and Jessica Williams, are PICTURED with the Mayor of Wirral, Steve Foulkes, before laying a wreath of remembrance on behalf of the Birkenhead Division Guides. This Brownie unit is linked with St James' church, north Birkenhead, and neighbouring St Bede’s church in Claughton Village.
undefined A poignant light display of remembrance
St Mary’s church in Tilston, near Malpas, created an impressive illuminated call to remembrance to mark the centenary of the Great War. The idea to illuminate the church tower with poignant images for the rural community came from the Rector, the Revd Jane Stephenson.
undefined Remembering St George’s Men …
‘St George’s Men’, a musical drama and World War I commemoration, written and directed by Chris Dawson, finished to a standing ovation in St George’s church, Heaviley, Stockport, on Saturday 8 November. The piece, which was devised and staged to raise funds for the organ at the church, unfolded with great poignancy and humour.
undefined A cascade of poppies to aid Remembrance
This cascade is the culmination of a project about remembrance carried out by members of St Michael and all Angels church, Bramhall, a couple of miles south of Stockport. The parish’s schools co-ordinator, Jill Elston (along with many volunteers) engaged with playgroups, uniformed organisations and schools to encourage children to make poppies and discuss the First World War.

A Stockport priest who hit the newspaper headlines after falling in church and breaking his wrist while taking a wedding service has started to feature regularly on BBC Radio Manchester. The Revd Roger Scoones (PICTURED) has been popping up often on Becky Want’s ‘Lunch time’ show between 12 midday and 1pm. His collection of teddy bears was a recent topic of conversation and source of affection for listeners.

undefined Restoration plan for landmark spire
St James church in New Brighton has received initial support from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) towards the restoration of its spire, the tallest in Wirral. Development funding of £21,400 has been awarded to help the church plan works which will need a further £228,600 next year to complete the work.

Teenagers enjoying ‘Refreshments In Church’ (RICH) after school on Thursdays at St. Oswald’s, Bollington (near Macclesfield) got a nice surprise as they celebrated the first anniversary of the project with a party ... when local butcher Jeremy Heathcote dropped by with a hamper of fruit for the youngsters.
