The Diocesan Board of Education (DBE), which oversees local developments and supports schools on a day to day basis, has been reformed into a smaller strategic group of 11 members. This new group, drawn from Diocesan Synod members and external appointments, came into force on 1st January 2017.

Our annual Called to Serve event recently brought together more than 50 people wanting to find out more about the four licensed ministries that Chester Diocese offers: Pastoral Worker, Reader, Church Army and Ordained Ministry. The event was held at Foxhill Centre for Prayer, Study and Mission.

undefined Stockton Heath’s new peal
A peal of bells has been installed for the first time at St Thomas Stockton Heath. They were officially dedicated at a special service led by the Bishop of Chester on 8th January 2017. A total of ten bells were installed with eight coming from a redundant church and two being cast from new.

Bookings are now being taken for the 2017 Step Forward event which will take place on Saturday 4th February 2017 at Bishopthorpe in York. Hosted by Archbishop Sentamu, this exciting free event is for anyone aged 18 – 30 who is considering ordained ministry in the Anglican Church and has been a real help in encouraging vocations.

St Peter’s Church, Little Budworth, is giving you the chance to take part in a sponsored walk, run or cycle around the world famous Oulton Park Racing Circuit. The track, which usually hosts racing by motor bikes and cars, is 2.7 miles long and attracts crowds of up to 35,000.
undefined Clergy New Year Queen Honour
The Reverend Robert Nelson has been recognised in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list. Revd Nelson, who is the Incumbent of St Thomas Liscard, has been awarded an MBE for services to homeless people and the community in Wirral. Revd Nelson said; “I am thrilled by this award. It is largely my work with the Ark project which is the main focus of this.”

Children and their parents at St Christopher’s Church, Pott Shrigley, Macclesfield have got together to produce a special nativity film and have made it available online to make sure that no one need miss out on a vital Christmas tradition this year.

Church of England makes late bid for Christmas advert of the Year in new film with “Gogglebox Vicar” The Church of England has squared up to commercial giants John Lewis, Sainsbury’s and Marks & Spencer with its bid for Christmas ad of the year.
undefined Romiley church delivers host of angels
A host of angels (of the knitted variety) descended on Romiley just prior to the morning commute on Tuesday December 13th. Members of St Chad’s Church Romiley had been busily knitting the 600 angels over the previous couple of months. The angels were then placed around the village by a team led by Liz Moseley and Marilyn Gregory, who came up with the idea.
undefined All Saints Shoeboxes
All Saints Church, Runcorn , Holy Trinity Church Runcorn and All Saints School, Runcorn donated 117 shoeboxes to the Samaritan Purse Operation Christmas Child. Attached is a photo of the children preparing to transfer the boxes to the collection van. Thirty of the boxes were donated by the Jaguar factory in Birmingham.
undefined Call the Midwife
The Anglican mission agency USPG has a starring role in a special Christmas episode of the BBC’s ‘Call the Midwife’. The show follows the fortunes of the midwives and nuns at Nonnatus House, in East London, in 1961. In the Christmas special, the Revd Tom Hereward and a number of the Sisters and midwives are sent by SPG (as USPG was known in the 1960s) to help a struggling clinic in South Africa.
undefined Chester Cathedral Zumbathon
In what is believed to be a world first, Chester Cathedral welcomed 500 people to a mega Zumba fitness class in the nave on the 18th November. The two hour Zumbathon, combining Latin and international dance music, raised more than £6000 for BBC Children in Need.
