undefined A pilgrimage to the Holy Land, 2016
This pilgrimage will be led by the Revd Canon Chris Samuels (PICTURED) from Monday 9 to Thursday 19 May 2016. The tour will take in places of great spiritual significance, including: Jerusalem, Bethlehem and Galilee. As well as seeing the territories that Jesus walked, the pilgrims will also worship alongside local Christians.
undefined Mayor’s visit to restoration project in New Brighton
The Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Les Rowlands, visited St James’ church, New Brighton to view the beginnings of a major restoration project. St James’ has been awarded a grant of £250,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund towards the cost of restoring its spire – the tallest in Wirral. The full cost of the project is £400,000.

We are one of the first dioceses outside Yorkshire to take Jesus Shaped People (JSP) seriously. Jesus Shaped People is a whole church adventure that helps parishes identify the priorities that Jesus modelled in his ministry – and through living those priorities local churches are renewed in the image of Christ.
undefined Celebrating a half a century of Christian service
It’s the 50th anniversary of the opening of St Michael’s church, Plas Newton, Chester, on Saturday and Sunday 17 and 18 of October. Several events are a planned. There will be an exhibition of memorabilia, and photographs from the opening in 1965 and onwards. That will also include an open-mic memories slot. That all happens on the Saturday from 2pm.
undefined Farewell to ‘our Sandra’, a much-loved colleague
Sandra James has retired after more than 26 years with our diocese. A farewell lunch for Sandra was held at Church House, Daresbury on August 28. She started work as Senior Secretary in the Education Department on 15 May 1989, when Kylie Minogue was at no 1 in the pop charts with ‘Hand on Your Heart’ and Margaret Thatcher has just begun her 11th year as Prime Minister.

A member of the congregation at St. Thomas', Stockport, is doing a skydive for The Christie hospital, where he’s being treated for cancer. Richard Scott’s parachute jump will take place on Sunday 6 September.
undefined ABC church – for Adults, Babies and Children
St Lawrence, Stoak, near Ellesmere Port, has a thriving service specially created for families with young children. ABC Church at St Lawrence began back in March after the parish were pleased to note that many parents who’d had their babies baptised at the church (near Ellesmere Port) were returning with the toddlers.
undefined A ‘light hanging’ at Bramhall church
This is the latest tower hanging to be put up at St Michael and All Angels’ church, Bramhall. It was made by the parish’s Arts and Craft Experience (ACE) group, partly to reflect the International Year of Light 2015 – a United Nations observance which aims to raise awareness of the achievements of light science and its applications, and its importance to humankind.
undefined ‘Barnies’ – fine community cohesion and partnership
Archdeacon Ian Bishop visited the ‘Barnies’ garden project at St Barnabas church hall in Crewe recently. It was started by Lesley Christiansen and her team with a grant from the National Lottery some four years ago. That paid for some raised beds and a greenhouse in which to grow fruit and veg for the local community.

St. George’s church, Poynton, was taken back to the time of Jesus and the early Christians this summer – by Peter and Julie Fraser of the Bible Encounter Trust.
undefined Archbishop Cranmer Awards
It’s time to think about entering these annual awards, which involve reading aloud sections from the Book of Common Prayer. The awards are for young people aged 11 to 18. The Chester diocesan heat will be held on Sunday 1 November at Holy Ascension church, Upton, Chester.

Children's TV news show Newsround interviewed the Church of England’s first woman bishop, the Rt Revd Libby Lane. Seven girls quizzed the Bishop of Stockport in her study at home in Dunham Town.
undefined Special organ concert in aid of landmark spire
Work has started on restoring the landmark spire at St James’ church in New Brighton, which will be dismantled stone by stone and rebuilt. A fundraising organ concert in aid of the restoration project will be given at the church next month by Thomas Allery, the Director of Chapel Music at Worcester College, Oxford.

The diocesan communications officers are to host a free one-day course covering the basic principles of photography, websites and media handling. It will be held at Foxhill, our diocesan conference and spiritual centre in Frodsham, on Wednesday 2 September, from 10am to 3.30pm.
undefined Roger Preece announced as an Archdeacon Designate
The Revd Roger Preece, Vicar Of Bowdon, is to become the new Archdeacon of St Helens and Warrington in the Diocese of Liverpool. Roger has been leading the ministry team at Bowdon in our diocese since 2008. The parish is held as a model of good practice by the Church Growth Team of the Church of England.
