undefined Lymm’s Christmas Tree Festival
St Mary’s Church, Lymm, will hold a Community Christmas Tree Festival over the weekend of Friday 4 to Sunday 6 December. The church will be filled with colour and light. More than 22 decorated and illuminated trees from village organisations will go on show, on the theme of ‘A Christmas Carol’.

The Queen called for unity among Christians at her address at the opening of the newly-elected General Synod recently. She said "The last synod will be particularly remembered for the way in which, after prolonged reflection and conversation, even in the midst of deep disagreements, it was able to approve the legislation to enable women to be consecrated as bishops."
undefined Congo visit’s many blessings – an update
Bishops Libby and Keith have returned from their visit to our fellow Christians in the Diocese of Aru, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Gill and Mark Brown, from Upton parish in Wirral, are also safely back home.
undefined Open day for part-time ministry and mission training
The All Saints Centre for Mission & Ministry, which trains Readers and ordinands part-time in our region, is holding an open day on Saturday 23 January. The day will take place at Wychwood Park Hotel near Crewe, CW2 5GP, from 10.30am to 3.30pm (lunch included).
undefined High Legh’s Christmas Tree Festival
St John’s church in High Legh, north Cheshire, will host a Christmas Tree Festival on 4, 5 and 6 December (Friday to Sunday). Local organisations – including Brownies, the bowling club, the golf club and the garden centre – are busy preparing a stunning range of Christmas trees which will be on display.
undefined Bishop Libby – a year on from an historic announcement
A year has passed since the historic announcement at Stockport Town Hall that Libby Lane was to become the first woman bishop in the history of the Church of England. The event was reported live. And 22 hours after the announcement our bishop-to-be Libby was doing a live interview with BBC Breakfast News – on the morning of 18 December last year, when the day’s national newspapers were all carrying the story too.

Across our diocese, parishes held Remembrance Sunday services on 8 November. These traditionally involve: a service in church; an act of remembrance and further prayers at the local war memorial; and the two minutes’ silence. West Cheshire Interfaith Forum is holding a vigil for victims of terror – in light of the recent events in Paris but also for victims worldwide. All are invited to this event which will be held at the Quaker Meeting House, Union Walk, Frodsham Street, Chester CH1 3LF, starting at 6pm on Friday 20 November.

A Wirral priest is encouraging local people to join in the Great British Litter Pick – as one way of showing support for the UN Convention on Climate Change to be held in Paris at the end of this month (November 2015). The Revd Mike Loach , Vicar of Christ Church, Higher Bebington, got the idea for a big litter clear-up from his son, Harry.
undefined How our Chaplain to the Queen honoured her long reign
On Wednesday 9 September this year – the day Elizabeth II became the longest-serving monarch in British history, a tribute was made to her by the Revd Canon Ian Davenport, in a sermon at a commemorative service at Chester Cathedral. Ian was honoured by being made a Chaplain to the Queen earlier this year. He is also the Rector of Malpas, Threapwood and Bickerton, and Rural Dean of Malpas.
undefined Lostock Gralam tree festival
This parish, near Northwich, will hold a Christmas tree festival on Saturday and Sunday, 12 and 13 December, and will have as its inspiration the children’s story The Selfish Giant. Decorated trees and painted panels will illustrate the story of the giant who banned children from his garden turning it in to constant winter. They’ll also see featured the return of spring and colour – an analogy to the Christ child.

undefined Our new ecumenical officer
The Revd Steve Clapham has been licensed by Bishop Libby as Priest-in-Charge of All Saints, Church Lawton, near Alsager – and as our Diocesan Ecumenical Officer. He’s available to support ecumenical initiatives across our diocese and to advise parishes who are considering working across denominational borders. He will combine his duties with leading the parish of Church Lawton.

Staff at Church House, Daresbury, wore pink to show support for the battle to find a cure for breast cancer –and donations came pouring in for the charity 'Breast Cancer Now'. The ‘Wear it Pink’ day was organised by Maxine Southwick, our Finance and HR Officer.

This new booklet suggests how the local churches are in a strong position to combat loneliness and reach out to show the love of Jesus. It’s written by the Revd Peter Rugen, Rural Dean of Frodsham, and John Dawson, our former diocesan officer for retired clergy and widows.
