Speaker's Chaplain visit to Macclesfield

The congregation of St. Paul’s Church, Macclesfield, well-known for its warm hospitality, will not be seeking to emulate the fervid atmosphere on the floor of the House of Commons chamber when they welcome distinguished preacher Revd. Rose Hudson-Wilkin to their Advent Sunday service on December 3rd, 2017.

The Revd. Rose Hudson-Wilkin has served as Chaplain to the Speaker of the House of Commons since 2010, a post which sees her living out her faith firmly in the ‘public square’, taking regular services in the House of Commons chapel and offering pastoral support to MPs and House of Commons staff. In addition to these duties, Rose holds the post of Chaplain to Her Majesty the Queen and is also Priest in Charge of St. Mary-at-Hill in the City of London, as well as a Prebendary of St. Paul’s Cathedral.

The Revd. Michael Fox, Priest in Charge at St. Paul’s Macclesfield, said; “We are delighted and very privileged to be welcoming such a distinguished preacher to Macclesfield. Rose has laid her many gifts at the service of a church she believes should be fully open to the talents of all; she has been a pioneering and effective opener of the road for women’s ministry, with her roots firmly planted in the soil of mission to the poor and to the oppressed even while walking in the halls of the great.”

Rose will be including insights from her days in the Church Army as she preaches about the need for the Church to be fully awake as it waits for its Lord. After the service Rose will take part in a Q&A in the St. Paul’s Parish Centre, giving congregation members the chance to ask her about life in the House of Commons.

The service of Holy Communion will begin on 3rd December at 10.30 am with refreshments served afterwards in the St. Paul’s Parish Centre.
