A Bredbury Vicar and his team of churchgoing cyclists proudly completed the Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride on Sunday 9 July, raising almost £500 for The Children’s Society.

Reverend Andy Bull, the Vicar from St. Mark’s Church in Bredbury near Stockport along with 10 other church goers completed the 60 mile challenge in an impressive 4 and a half hours to support the charity’s work with the most vulnerable children across the country suffering hardship, abuse and neglect.

Rev Bull has been at the parish church since 2010 and in that time has delivered Christingle services every year, all raising vital funds for The Children’s Society. St Mark’s Church in Redhouse Lane has hosted Christingle services during the festive season for over 30 years in total and raised more than £18,000 for the charity in that time.

For the last four years Rev Bull has assembled a team of local friends of the church to take up a cycling challenge to raise money for The Children’s Society.  This year the team comprised of a range of ages and abilities but all crossed the finish line together in 4.5hours.

Reflecting on his personal challenge and determination to make a difference, Rev Andy Bull said: “Getting ready to cycle 60 miles was a challenge in itself but a great incentive to get fit!  It felt wonderful to complete the course along with 5000 other cyclists raising money for worthy causes.

“Some of the route was tough but I’m really proud of our team who range from their late teens to mid-fifties and some have experience while others are complete novices.

“We are delighted to know the money raised from our efforts will go towards changing the lives of disadvantaged children and young people.”

The Children’s Society’s Supporter Engagement Officer, Laura Balcombe says: “Cycling the Manchester to Blackpool Bike Ride is a fantastic achievement and Reverend Andy Bull and his team’s inspiring efforts will help to make a real difference to young people’s lives.   Rev Bull’s fundraising will support our vital work with children who often have nowhere left to turn.”
