Vacancy: Chaplain / Spiritual Care Team Leader

Location: Wirral

Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust  is looking to appoint an enthusiastic, energetic and engaging Team Leader who will work in a creative and positive way with other leaders, managers and stakeholders. The post holder will provide strong strategic leadership to the small team of chaplains and the many volunteers working within the hospital to ensure that the department continues to deliver excellent, patient and family focused care.

The Spiritual Care/Chaplaincy Service is highly valued by patients, their families/carers and staff, and is central to the development of the Trust’s vision and PROUD values. Due to the size and demands of the team, you will be expected to work in a ‘hands on’ way with patients and staff and to fully participate in Sunday working and the chaplaincy ‘on-call rota’. You will be expected to work across both sites, providing care to the sick, dying and bereaved (including baby deaths). The majority of call outs and religious requirements are for patients requiring a Christian Ministry. Our small team is tasked with meeting this requirement and the Team Leader will need to facilitate or support in the delivery of this.

As a department we provide an increasing amount of support for staff working in a variety of disciplines and across a variety of subjects, and you will therefore need good teaching and presentation skills. Examples of training sessions will include end of life care and equality, diversity and inclusion.

In agreement with the Head of Patient Experience as your line manager, you will be expected to undertake various strategic projects and roles, contributing to the Trust’s objectives through involvement with the wider organisation, leaders and relevant stakeholders.

You will need to be an excellent and committed team player and leader who is willing to engage with both Trust and departmental values and objectives. You will need good organisational abilities and excellent interpersonal, teaching, training, and communication skills.

The post is open to anyone who is fully committed to supporting people of any faith or no faith without prejudice and who fully embraces the principles of the Equality Act 2010.
