Introduction - St James’ Church, New Brighton, is a grade II listed building with the claim to fame of having the tallest spire on the Wirral. This makes it a great landmark, but as a Victorian building, also a major responsibility as the spire needed extensive repairs to make it structurally safe.
That phase of the repair project was completed in Spring 2016 and Phase two- which focuses on solving severe damp penetration problems in the chancel- is still ongoing; both projects being successfully part-funded by Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) grants.
Come and see the current project and hear from the church about their experiences of managing these two contrasting repair projects and also successfully working with the HLF. Although recent changes to HLF grants have taken place, the principles of securing and managing HLF funding is relevant across all their grant schemes. The morning includes:
• Getting the repair project going- key factors to put in place
• Tips on successfully applying for a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF)
• How to manage a major repair project and a HLF grant, including working with the architect, contractors and HLF officer
• Lessons learnt
• What’s next for the church

This event has been organised by the Diocese of Chester. The morning will also include finding out about support available to Anglican churches from the central team at Church House.
